It is the mission of Dering to provide services at a level, which exceeds customer's expectations. Dering will be responsible and accountable to its customers in providing them with the highest quality, most reliable and most practical cost solutions of getting their product to market, implementing new technology when appropriate or continuing the development of their products utilizing current technology.
In 1986 after 10 years of Optical Lense manufacturing experience, David Dering developed the business plan that was the basis of AmericanHelix. In 1987, AmericanHelix entered the compact disc manufacturing market with one of the first fully integrated manufacturing cells in the industry. This was a major breakthrough in the industry because it removed time and people from the manufacturing process.
American Helix evolved into one of the highest quality Compact Disc Replicators in North America with Block Error Rates less than 10 errors per second and disc graphics boasting five color process images. In fact, American Helix was the first North American Compact Disc manufacturing facility to embrace five-color screen-printing. This capability earned American Helix numerous international screen printing awards and the ability to produce thousands of discs for Sony Entertainment, Capital / EMI, GRP and BMG Entertainment.
In the early 1990's the CD industry was exploding and American Helix was acquired by Kao Infosystems in 1993 to take them into the CD-ROM market. Kao Infosystems at the time was a $350,000,000 division of Kao Corporation, an $8.5 billion Japanese Conglomerate. Kao Infosystems was the worldwide market leader in the production of floppy disks and their customers were pushing them into the compact disc market. It was the American Helix quality, technology and management team that allowed Kao to rise to the #1 spot in the world of CD-ROM manufacturing services within just 2 years of operation. Dering's AmericanHelix Team, now under the Kao name, served customers that included Microsoft, Compaq, Novell, Borland, Lotus, America On-line and Electronic-Arts at its Lancaster based operation to name a few. Dering's TEAM assisted KAO in the building of CD Facility's in California, Ireland, Canada, Japan and Massachusetts. In 1996, Dering completed his contract with Kao and decided it was time to acquire his Lancaster based facility back from Kao to return as an independent replicator.
Today, Dering brings to its customers 30 years of combined experience on a global basis in the manufacture of high quality plastic products. From CDs and DVDs to bullet proof lenses and optically perfect fighter pilot helmet shields, Dering has pushed technology to solve his customer's needs. These needs have brought his TEAM the knowledge and experience to design and mold from the simplest to the extreme. Using engineering resins such as Polycarbonate to the very versatile in packaging materials like Polypropylene. To provide its customer's parts ready to go to market, Dering has developed the skills to machine, shape, hot stamp, screen print and assemble. Most importantly these services are preformed in the United States in a high volume, cost-effective manufacturing environment.
In 2007, Dering is able to compete and produce millions of parts in the United States. CD based products and its complete line of patented CShell® products are produced in the United States for distribution on a Global basis.

5 helpful tips for printing on a CD!!
1.) Make sure to use the correct Dering templates and follow the specs.
2.) For CD labels sometimes simpler is better. Sometimes using solid PMS spot colors renders better results than artist's images or subtle and detailed artwork.
3.) Keep type larger than 8 points for easy reading and higher quality printing.
4.) If you want to print on a disc without printing a white base coat down first, be aware of the different surfaces of the disc. For example the center area of the disc is clear plastic. Printing type or logos across these different surfaces can lead to unappealing results.
5.) Remember that the silver surface of the disc can be used to add an additional "color" to your artwork. Letting the silver of the disc show through type or graphics can add a nice effect to your design.
