John Lee has been more than a "regular" on the DC music scene for the past umpteen years. Known as the "Chinese Irishman," John is DC's top "hired gun" because he is ever-versatile, with a background in music that hails from studying all styles ferociously. He performs regularly throughout the city and beyond with several bands such as Caveman (Philly),The Oscillators(DC), Baye Kouyate (NY), Buster Brown & The Get Down (VA/DC), Cyro Baptista's Beat The Donkey (NY), Junior League Band (DC) and of course his own band, The John Lee Experience or "J.L.e.", which consists of all his original music. Riding high on the release of his debut solo album, "Somewhere Impossible to Find," (which many of you proudly own) he is planning many surprises for everyone in 2010 - Be on the lookout for upcoming shows!
In his many years as a master guitarist John has performed individually with such renowned and celebrated artists as John Zorn, Cyro Baptista, Leni Stern, Calvin Weston, Dave Fiuczynski, Matisyahu, and his band has opened for the ever-touring jam bands The Disco Biscuits and Phish. He was already a well-traveled musician at an early age, with stamps on his passport from Switzerland, Portugal and Israel, to name a few. He is far from done.
Venues that you may have caught his unique, mind-bending style and sound include Bohemian Caverns, ESL (Eighteenth Street Lounge), The Black Cat, Rock & Roll Hotel, The Space, Velvet Lounge, The Kennedy Center, The Sculpture Garden, The State Theater, Twins Jazz, Utopia, 9:30 Club and Bossa. Other venues include The Trocadero Theater in Philly, Zebulon, Joe's Pub, NuBlu, Le Poisson Rouge, The Rose and The Stone in NYC, just to name a few. There are many more to be conquered.
Don't know John Lee? Get to know him. His sound is unmistakable and ethereal, with moments of chaos and madness, and is ultimately unforgettable.
